Beat Ya Feet!!!!!

Friday 14 August, 2009

The District of Columbia is finally receiving some over due and well deserved respect for it’s artistic creativity and originality.  When it comes to music and dancing, the D.M.V. has its own style that only natives seem to understand; hopefully the “Beat Ya Feet Kings” are in a position to change that.

Go-go music totally exemplifies Washington, D.C. and so does the group of five dancers who are known as the “Beat Ya Feet Kings” who will be performing on MTV’s “Americas Best Dance Crew”.  People across the nation will get the opportunity to see how the D.M.V. gets down on the dance floor and hear a unique type of music they have never experienced before!  I hope you’re all excited and ready to support this group.  Although Go-go has gone through many transformations, this group is ready to represent the D.M.V. to the fullest with an array of feet beating, energetic, and slow-bouncing combinations.  Finally, people all across the country will get a whiff of the music and culture we grew up submerged in here in the D.M.V.  Check out their audition tape below, and watch the show Sundays at 9p.m.  We are turning up the D.M.V. heat in L.A., sweating out weaves and all that!!!

D.M.V.'s Other "Mayor", Marion Barry

Wednesday 12 August, 2009

The documentary on former D.C. Mayor, and local celebrity (lol), Marion Barry aired on H.B.O. last night.  A true D.M.V. native knows any documentary on this Mississippi bred, honorary Washingtonian is going to be off the hook!  In a live interview on Channel 8 News last night before the documentary aired, a rather defensive Barry reminds us all of the great work he has done in our city such as redistributing the wealth and contracts, bringing social programs into the city, and cutting a fool hard enough for reporters to capitalize off his hardships.

Now I know you might think I’m crazy but shit, Marion Barry’s crazy ass escapades has put some food, Gucci, and gold on the tables of journalists because he always packs a front page story.  This former cotton picking country boy let the city life get to him a little, but he has nonetheless been resilient and an icon in our city.  If you mess with the D.M.V. you mess with Marion Barry by default.

Anyways, the documentary is called “The Nine Lives of Marion Barry”.  Check out the trailer link below.  How appropriate H.B.O.????? Smh! Why do they have to compare this negro to a cat??? (Call him an “alley cat” after 1990!)

P.S. Some D.C. rapper needs to take the Halle Berry song and remake it for Marry Beeerrrrryyyy, Marry Berry!!!!!

Oohh's and Aahh's: Restaurant Review

Tuesday 11 August, 2009

If you know anything about good soul food in Washington, D.C., Oohhs & Aahhs Soul Food Restaurant has been the only thing your palette craves after a long night at the club or a nice day on U Street since about 03!  In 2003, Indiah Wilson combined vision with Oji Abbott to open Oohh’s and Aahh’s Soul Food Restaurant.  These two capitalized on the opportunity after finding out in the U Street barbershop the place was up for grabs!  Without much hesitation, Indiah and Oji scooped the joint up and started feeding the U Street community. Hungry??? Get in the chow line on the next page…..
